The Long Way Round is part of my new collection “Along the Way” now showing at Kohort.
This painting is inspired by the moments when I choose to take the long way round not because I have to, but because I've learnt that there is so much beauty to be found when I slow down. It's about wandering without rushing, noticing the details I might otherwise miss and leaving space for unexpected discoveries along the way.
As I painted, I reflected on how life isn't always about getting to the destination as quickly as possible. Some of my favourite memories have come from the scenic route, the unplanned pauses and the little moments of wonder that reveal themselves when I take the time to look. Whether it's a hidden wildflower, a familiar place seen from a different perspective, or an unexpected opportunity, slowing down often opens the door to things I never would have found if I'd been in a hurry.
Through layered colour, expressive texture and flowing forms, I wanted to capture that sense of freedom, curiosity and quiet appreciation.
The Long Way Round is an invitation to embrace a slower pace, trust the journey and discover the unexpected beauty waiting to be found when we allow ourselves the time to notice it.
